You've got to be kidding me, don't you?
The rollover from :2641 to :80 (including page serve) took me just over 4.5
mins!! (I had expected 2-3 mins from previous work.) I tried this experiment
some three or four times - different links. (I didn't have the patience to
pursue further.)
All the extension does for me is to break my proxy links. I don't think
we're atypical but :2641 is not open to our network.
I'm sorry to be so negative on this, but one really can't assume that users
will be tied to institutions nor that institutions will open up beyond :80.
I think the situation is worse than Norman feared as users are increasingly
mobile (both networks and devices) and so not beholden to any given IT
regime.
I really don't see much future for any generic end-to-end handle service to
the desktop or handheld. :(
Cheers,
Tony

If the extension is unable to access the Handle System directly, it falls
back to using the web-to-handle proxy servers, which should work fine from
behind a firewall. I would appreciate hearing from someone in such a
situation.
Thanks,
Robert
