I’ve noticed I am having XQuartz problems with another machine, so it’s probably me.

Seems like the screen resolution is getting reported differently, depending on how the application asks.
When I connect to a non-retina external display things are much happier. I don't have the hdl-admintool handy so i can't easily test for you. thanks danno
