Re: [Handle-info] Handle identifier and URN - what about the slash?

Hi Jakob:
The handle below should be resolving now. This week we have been moving servers to a new hosting site and that handle server was down for a short period of time. I suspect proxy caching might have been an issue. Sorry for the confusion.

The list of all handle prefixes(old term naming authority) is not public. The main registry is called the Global Handle Registry and is run by CNRI. We have 3 global sites that make up the Global Registry.

I know - everything is an URI but this does not help that much. URNs do
also exist and I am asked to create URNs *and* handles, so I'd like to
encode my handles in an URN namespace like is it used in DOI. I'm still
unsure whether and where to encode the slash in a handle if I make an
URN out of it. If you say that just prefixing the handle with "urn:hdl:"
is a common way and fine to make an URN than it's ok.

Thanks for pointing me to this. Finally I start to understand Handle :-)
But the fact that CORDIS own handle id is not accessible via the
handle.net resolver does not make a good impression:

http://hdl.handle.net/2000.01/FFEE9F72B00C4189B137ECD34188B94E

This brings me to a simple but basic question about Handle: where is the
main registry? How can I find out which naming authorities exist? Is
there a public database? I only know DOI and luckily all DOIs i tested
with http://dx.doi.org also work with http://hdl.handle.net/

Greetings,
Jakob
